The Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center continues their
Independent Film Series with Sensation of Sight on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:30p.m. This film is Rated R; individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A fusion of dream/reality, The Sensation of Sight contemplates relationships, communication, and the meaning of life as it follows Finn (David Strathairn), an English teacher whose involvement with a tragedy has left him asking the age-old question “Why?” Leaving his family and his job, he sets about selling encyclopedias to town locals, including Dylan (Daniel Gillies), a former student who’s estranged from his father (Scott Wilson) and sister (Elisabeth Waterston); Alice (Jane Adams), a waitress and single mother with whom he has a brief and awkward romantic encounter; and Drifter (Ian Somerhalder), a musician grieving the death of his brother (Joe Mazello). The interaction of these characters affects and alters each of them, while leading Finn ultimately to the end of his quest and a sublime awakening.

Thursday, 4/28/2012: Jazz Artist, Gretchen Parlato at Fryeburg Academy’s Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm. Gretchen Parlato has been turning heads ever since she won the 2004 Thelonious Monk Institute International Vocal Competition. Her sultry, intriguing voice and unique, rhythmically agile phrasing came with inescapable centripetal force; the more intimate and understated she sang, the more she drew listeners in.
