HUNDREDS OF MT WASHINGTON VALLEY RESIDENTS RAISED $81,000 TO HELP TO END BREAST CANCER

More than 400 residents joined together at the American Cancer Society Making Strides 2013 Strides 113 hiAgainst Breast Cancer® 4 mile walk on Sunday, October 20th to help the Society do the most for people with breast cancer today to end the disease tomorrow. This noncompetitive event united the entire community to honor breast cancer survivors, educate people about how to reduce their breast cancer risk or find the disease early and raise funds to end breast cancer. The event and the dollars raised from it help the Society provide free resources and support to the one in two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer who turn to the Society for help and support. Dollars raised also fund groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat and cure breast cancer, as well as help the Society ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.

Seven Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks were held across New Hampshire on Sunday, drawing together thousands of people in the fight against breast cancer.

“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer unites us all to walk together as the most powerful force to end breast cancer,” said Kathy Metz, of the American Cancer Society. “We are so thankful for how this community has pulled together to encourage everyone to change the course of breast cancer forever. Making Strides walkers and supporters can be proud that their efforts are helping 2.6 million breast cancer survivors living in the US celebrate another birthday this year.”

Making Strides was an inspirational, uplifting walk through the North Conway Village and Whitaker Woods. Teams of walkers collected pledges for weeks before turning them in at the event. Volunteers can still send in outstanding pledges and even ask new friends to give through the event’s Web site at http://www.makingstrideswalk.org/northconwaynh. Walkers are also encouraged to ask their employers about matching gifts.
