Fryeburg Academy May Term Performances AT THE LEURA HILL EASTMAN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

As May Term classes come to an end at Fryeburg Academy, students will be presenting the shows that they have been working on for the past two weeks. Performances will feature dance, poetry, music, acting and much more! It’s all happening this week at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg. All shows are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted and gratefully appreciated.

 

On Wednesday, June 4th, the poems of Shel Silverstein come to life as Fryeburg Academy theater students present their unique interpretations of Silverstein’s witty and wise words. Using creative movement, colorful scenery, dazzling lights and audience participation, students will present a high-energy performance sure to delight all ages. The show begins at 12:00 p.m. and is set to run for an hour.

 

Later that night at 7:30, FA students will present their Multimedia Dance Project featuring Hio Ridge Dance. Utilizing the combined arts of dance and video, students have teamed up with professional choreographers from Hio Ridge Dance to put together a performance featuring cutting edge forms of dance and digital video to discover new forms of communication and expression. The show will last 30 minutes, and there will be a question and answer session following the performance.

 

On Thursday, June 5th, the FA musical theater class presents Jason Robert Brown’s song-cycle musical, Songs for a New World, at 12:30 and 7:30 p.m.As the show’s opening number explains to the audience, “it’s all about one moment.” FA’s production, conceived and directed by George Wiese with assistance from visiting guest-artist Geoffery Langley, features 23 Academy students and is sure to delight audiences with its energetic singing and upbeat music. Please note that the subject matter of this show is not appropriate for small children.
