Sept. 27, 2014 Fundraiser to Be Held at Attitash Grand Summit

Supporters of Memorial Hospital are encouraged to break out their finest evening attire and dancing shoes and make plans to attend the 3rd Annual Legacy Gala event, taking place Sept. 27, 2014, at the Attitash Grand Summit in Bartlett, NH.

The Gala—an Evening of Vintage Elegance—will offer guests an exceptional evening of culinary delight and superb musical entertainment and dancing. New for this year, entertainment will be provided by the popular Cold River Radio Band with master of ceremonies Jonathan Sarty. Tickets are $150 per person. Once again, this will be a “black tie/red carpet” formal attire event.

This year’s proceeds will go towards the Memorial Hospital Foundation’s recently renamed Community Wellness Endowment Fund. The purpose of this permanent resource is to provide financial security for Memorial Hospital’s future. Contributions to MHF Community Wellness Endowment Fund are prudently invested to provide support for Memorial Hospital in perpetuity.

“I am pleased to see the Gala support the Community Wellness Endowment Fund. Its support of this fund will create a permanent legacy, providing Memorial Hospital with reliable financial support year after year, generation after generation,” stated Memorial Hospital President & CEO Scott McKinnon.

The evening starts at 6:00 pm with a walk down the Red Carpet where each guest will have an opportunity to have their photograph taken and enjoy a glass of chilled champagne. Appetizers will be displayed on a beautiful ice sculpture as well as butler passed. Everyone will have time to mingle with friends and enjoy music by jazz pianist Joe “Sonny” Barbato in the Summit Cocktail Lounge.

At 7:00 PM, there will be an eclectic dinner menu offered with duet entrées of Skewered Lobster Tail with Tournedos of Sirloin with a Jack Daniels Demi Glaze Sauce; Baked Haddock with Buttery Herb Crust and Wellington of Chicken with Lobster Cognac Sauce; Chicken Wellington with Lobster Cognac and Skewered Lobster; and a Vegetarian Entree of Marinated Vegetables of Eggplant, Red Bell Pepper, Zucchini, Summer Squash, Garlic in a Tomato Basil Cream Sauce topped with Herbed Mozzarella, Lemon Orzo & Roasted Red Pepper with Fingerling Potatoes. Guests will enjoy complimentary wine pairings for each table, specially selected to highlight the entrees being served. The cocktail hour will offer a shrimp cocktail and oyster raw bar.

This year’s Gala sees a return to the helm of the Summit’s Executive Chef Ken Hazelton, who wowed guests at the Gala’s inaugural event two years ago. Hazelton attended Southern New Hampshire University Culinary Program in Hooksett, NH and graduated with an AAS in Culinary Arts.  He previously worked at the Mount Washington Hotel for five years and was chef at the Attitash Grand Summit since 2004. After an 18-month hiatus, Hazelton has returned to the Summit and is looking forward to once again delighting Gala participants with his spectacular cuisine.

During dinner, the musical spotlight will be on Portland-based string quartet Amarantos, performing classical, baroque, and contemporary styles in their unique and high quality arrangements for strings.

New this year, Jonathan Sarty and the Cold River Radio Band will take to the stage as the evening’s entertainment centerpiece. Sarty and his band have developed renown in Mt. Washington Valley over the last two years as the stars of the Cold River Radio Show, a bi-monthly live radio show that features not only the band but special guest musicians from around New England. Sarty, through his contacts and experience with the Show, will bring to the Gala’s stage a range of musicians and talent that will impress and delight Gala guests, while also compelling all to take to the dance floor.

The Cold River Radio Band, led by Jonathan Sarty consists of accomplished Boston based performing artists Joseph (Sonny) Barbato on piano, Professor Todd Baker on double bass, critically acclaimed and world renowned drummer Dave Mattacks, soprano saxophonist Michael Sakash, and other special guests.

The band will perform a variety of classic jazz crooners, big band jazz and swing hits, and 50’s era boogie woogie and rock n’ roll dance hits.

Sarty said, “I am so pleased to present this incredible evening of high caliber entertainment, showcasing the amazing talents of these consummate professionals in an atmosphere custom made for enjoyment. This promises to be a wonderful and memorable evening.”
