2014 MUD BOWL TO CELEBRATE ‘MUDDY GAME SHOWS’ THEME, SEPT. 5-7

Mud Bowl, the championships of mud football, will celebrate a theme of “Muddy Game Shows” when it splashes off at Steve Eastman Memorial Field at North Conway’s Hog Coliseum the weekend after Labor Day Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5 through 7.
The theme will be used by participants in the team and the open class for the 32nd Tournament of Mud Parade, set for Main Street Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. The parade features a team and an open class. It is sponsored by Amoskeag Beverages Inc., overall sponsors of Mud Bowl. To enter a float, call chair Bobbi Steele-Marotta at (603) 496-4404 by Aug. 29.

Tickets will be on sale in advance at the North Conway Community Center, Hannaford, The Met, the Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and North Conway Day Care. Three-day tickets are $10; day tickets are $6 ages 14 and up, and $4 ages 6 to 13; family tickets (two adults, two children) are $15 per day.
Three-day tickets serve as entry to two $500 prize drawings (one need not be present to win). Proceeds benefit local charities, with more than $800,000 having been raised since the first games were played locally in 1976. The games feature two-hand touch football, played in knee-deep mud, with seven players per side.
Teams include the defending champion North Country Crocs, the 11-time champion Mount Washington Valley Hogs; the 18-time champion Muddas Football Club of Amherst; the six-time champion Nashua Mud Gumbys; the 2005 champion North Shore Mudsharks; the 2001 champion Merrimack Mudcats of Franklin, N.H.; the Carrabasset Valley Rats, who founded the sport in 1972 in Kingfield, Maine; the Cumberland (R.I.) Muckaneers; the Peabody Predators, and the Mud Ducks of Beverly, Mass. Teams are cheered on by cheerleaders and Mudbassadors.
Also occurring during Mud Bowl Weekend is the MWV Old Car Show. Vehicles appear in Saturday’s Tournament of Mud Parade, and then are displayed at Settlers’ Green Outlet Village (603-356-7031) Sunday.
