The project included the installation of new snowmaking water and air pipes, rebuilding of pumps and motors and the installation of a combination of 285 new, high-efficiency, low-energy HKD and Snow Logic brand snow guns, 179 more guns than originally planned. These new state-of-the-art guns will dramatically improve the ability to produce greater amounts of snow while increasing the efficiency of the snowmaking system. The installation of the 179 additional snow guns increased the amount invested in the snowmaking upgrade by more than $770,000, in addition to the $1 million investment initially announced last spring.
The new guns are capable of producing greater amounts of snow in both marginal and ideal cold temperatures using less energy and are easier to operate than older snow gun technology. This summer’s snowmaking improvements follow the previous year’s $1.3 million Thorne Pond rejuvenation project, a major snowmaking water resource for Attitash.
“We will be focusing even more attention to the quality of our product this season,” said John Lowell, President of Attitash Mountain Resort and Wildcat Mountain. “Peak Resorts’ increased investment this off season in the snowmaking infrastructure and new snow gun technology will be a ‘game changer’ for Attitash Mountain Resort’s snowmaking efforts. We are very excited for what this means for our customers this coming season.”
In addition to snowmaking improvements, Attitash has acquired a new $300,000 Prinoth snow groomer, two new shuttle buses and a new van for transporting guests between Attitash and Bear Peak base areas, parking lots and the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel. Attitash also added over $80,000 of new Burton snowboard equipment to its rental inventory.
