Camps / Workshops

for Kids/Teens/Adults

(5-day) ART CAMP FOR KIDS, July 13-17

with Melanie Levitt & Assistant

This camp is for the kid who loves art and wants to create for 5 days! Students will work on numerous projects each day and be exposed to a variety of materials and techniques. Space is limited and only high quality art materials are used. Some projects include: Acrylic Birch Tree Paintings, Wire Sculpture Starfish, Mixed Media Metallic Art, Mosaic Mirrors, Leaf /Flower Monoprints, Jackson Pollock Splatter Painted T-shirts, Mondrian Masterpieces, Monster Rock Pets, Outdoor Nature Drawing, Games. Art History & More! Please pack snack, lunch & white t-shirt.
 (Half day students will leave before lunch so should only pack a snack)

(5-day) Fashion/Sewing Camp, July 20-24

With Rebecca Klementovich & Lori Badger Stearns

This  camp is for the student who loves fashion and want to learn how the fashion industry works. Students will work on numerous projects each day. For the first half of the week, students will be working on creating inspiration boards, developing a color palette, sketching fashion designs, and creating technical flats. One of their final projects will be to study Coco Chanel and then translate her work into their own fashion sketch. The second half of the week will focus on sewing and creating accessories and bringing some of our fashion sketches to life. Projects include DIY t-shirt design, fabric design, and sewing an infinity scarf. We will end the week with a presentation!   Space is limited to allow for lots of individual attention. Please bring a sewing machine if you have one. We have a limited amount. Please also pack a lunch, snack, and large white t-shirt. All other supplies. included Mon-Fri.,

(5 full days) July 20-24   9am-3:00pm   $355 includes supplies  Ages 10-16

(4-day) Art Camp for Kids – August 10-14

This 4-day camp is for the kid who loves art and wants to create for four full days! Students will work on numerous projects each dayand be exposed to a variety of materials and techniques. Space is limited and only high quality art materials are used. Some projects include:Mosaic Fish Plaques, Stuffed Animal Prints, Aboriginal Clay Snakes, Watercolor Zentangle Initials,Wire Mobiles, Mountain Landscape Collage, Paper Maché Puppets, Nature Drawing, T-shirt design, Art History & More!

Papermaking for Kids, July 7

with Carol Hanson

Learn the art of making paper in this fun, one day class! Students will turn brightly
colored paper, natural and recycled materials into pulp.This fun, tactile experience
will provide a multi-sensory experience, which can easily be recreated at home!
We will then blend the different pulps together, using fine art techniques and
create a wet-on-wet landscape.Students will bring home their unique masterpiece,

which will change slightly as it dries overnight.

Two Dates Offered:

Tuesday, July 7  9am -12pm (1 session) $45 includes supplies Ages 6 and up

Let’s Face It! Clay Handbuilding for KIDS 

with Carol Hanson

In this one day class, students will learn how to work and shape air-dried clay to make 3-D faces,which can hang on a wall when done! Learn to hand build parts of the faces as well as pulling some features out of the ball of clay!No prior experience needed.

Woodworking for Kids

With Carol Hanson

In this one day class, students will design, cut and finish a unique wooden fish. We will use vintage and newer hand tools, like coping saws, hand drills, awls,
bench vices, and sanding blocks. We will work with acrylic paints learning to blend color to create a sea creature to be loved and displayed for many years!

Zentangle Initial (all ages)

With Lori Stearns Badger

In this one day class, students will be introduced to the fun and relaxing doodling process of Zentagle – an engaging art form that usesrepetitive patterns to create striking drawings that anyone can achieve! Students will focus on creating their initial with theguidance of the instructor. There will be lots of time for doodling and  a final  masterpiece will be created .Black ink and watercolors will be used along with high quality paper for the final drawing. All supplies included.

Bird Collage (all ages)

With Lori Badger Stearns

In this fun one day workshop, students will create a one of a kind bird collage.  We will use acrylic paint, colored and patterned papers,modge podge and a quote to make your own unique masterpiece. Students will learn the process of building up a collage in layersworking step by step with the instructor’s guidance. Each collage will be unique in color, pattern and design.  All supplies included.

Mosaic Fish Plaque (all ages)

With Lori Badger Stearns

Create your own mosaic fish design on a wooden plaque using broken tiles, glass beads and other small bits.The first class will be design and adhering the tiles. The second class will be grouting and final decorating.Adults and older kids will learn how to use tile cutters to piece together their design. Younger students will use pre-broken pieces.

Optional: bring some of your own small bits to personalize your mosaic fish plaque.

Zentangle Animal (all ages) 

 

With Lori Badger Stearns

Beaded Beach Jewelry

With Lori Badger Stearns

This fun one session class will introduce you to creating stretchy beach bracelets.
We will use a  variety of recycled glass beads with the addition of charms and tassels.
Color selection and knotting techniques will be covered to create beautiful unique designs.
Cost of class will cover three bracelets. More materials available for purchase from instructor if needed.

Landscape Collage for Kids

In this on day workshop, students will create an abstract landscape collage building up layers of new andrecycled materials on canvas board. Each student’s personality will shine as they select materials from our assortment includingJapanese papers, tissue paper, patterned papers, newspaper, maps and more. Instruction will be given in adhering paper,adding paint and layering to create a colorful and original piece of art.

Clay Handbuilding for Kids: Animals

In this one day class, students will learn hand-building techniques with air dry clay to create clay animals.Students will learn how to manipulate the clay with coil, pinch and slab techniques  along with their own creativity!All materials are included.
$45 includes supplies  (1 session)  9am -12pm  ages 6-12

Teen/Adult Painting Studio
(3 sessions) with Melanie Levitt

In this intensive evening class, students will work on their own individual painting project in either
oil or acrylics. They will choose from landscape or still life, from photos and real life. Lessons
will be given in sketching, creating a successful composition, color, value and more. Each student
will receive lots of individual attention. This class is open to all levels and abilities and is a great class
for students who want to be creative and improve their skills.  Students are responsible for the bulk
|of their own supplies. Please pack a sketch book in addition to your paint, palette knife, brushes, rags, oderless turpentine (if using oils) and canvases.
For an additional fee of $45, we can provide you with all oil painting supplies for the class.

 

July 27, 28, & 29 (3 nights)  $150   6-9pm  Adults & Teens ages 13 and up

Clay Hand-Building for Kids
AFTER SCHOOL ART

In this 4 week after school class, students will learn hand-building techniques with air dry clay. Each week will be a different project including a face, a bowl, a vase, and an animal. We will use coil and slab techniques along with our own creativity! All materials are included. Please pack a snack and a drink. Bartlett and Jackson students can take the bus to the studio but have to arrange with the school.

Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21 & 28   $75 includes supplies   3:45-5:15pm

NEW! Floral Mosaics with Lori Badger Stearns


In this 4 session mosaic class,  students will choose from a variety of floral close up photos provided and use those as their mosaic inspiration.  Participants will learn the basic tile cutting techniques and “adementi’ or patterns of laying tiles.  Glass mosaic tile will be provided in a variety of colors needed to create a unique masterpiece. This is a great class to learn about the basics of direct method mosaic art. This class is suitable for the beginner student or those with some experience working with mosaics but want to further their skills.
A materials fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at class and will include use of studio tools, a plexiglass base and glass tiles.

Experiment with Color: Kandinsky Inspired

with Rebecca Klementovich


In this two day weekend workshop, Kandinsky’s colorful work will be the inspiration for loosening up and experimenting with color. Rebecca will lead the class through lectures and exercises examining the work of Kandinsky to achieve dynamic and colorful paintings. Acrylic or oil paints can be used. (Acrylics will dry quicker and are recommended) By the end of the weekend, students will have completed FOUR original 16″x20″ abstract paintings. Class size will be limited to allow for lots of personal attention. The class will end with a critique and wine. A great way to loosen up and be creative for all levels, beginner to intermediate. For an additional fee of $40, Jackson Art can provide you with (4) 16×20″ canvases. Students are expected to bring their own paints, brushes, and other class supplies. A supply list will be e-mailed to registered students.

NEW! Plein Aire Painting: THE MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE

 

With PETER GRANUCCI

 

 


In this weekend workshop, students will enjoy the creative process of setting up an easel outdoors and  painting the landscape “en plein aire.” The focus of this class will be on painting the mountain landscape. Students will learn how to distill the important information from their observation and translate it onto the canvas. Peter will address how to create depth, form, and light effects along with lots of  other tips for painting outdoors. All this will be taught in an understandable way that will lead students to improve their ability to see the landscape and create a finished painting in a short time. This class is suitable for the beginner student who wants to learn how to paint outdoors and for the advanced  student who wants to improve their skills. Students are responsible for their own supplies or contact Jackson Art if you would like them to provide your set up for the weekend.
