A Blue Star Museum: Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm. Tuesday, May 25–Saturday, September 5, 2015, Remick offers free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including the National Guard and Reserve. In addition, veterans and their guest may also enjoy the same consideration. The Blue Star Museums effort is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America.
Forgotten Arts: Fiber Arts Group. Tuesday, June 2, 16 & 30, 9:30 a.m.–12 p.m. Fiber artists and/or interested onlookers are welcome to join our Happy Weavers & Friends group to learn the historic art of weaving, spinning, sewing, quilting, and more. Bring your own project to work on, if desired. This group meets monthly on an every other Tuesday schedule at Remick Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village. FREE. Plants of Field & Forest Series: Outdoor Walks, Thursdays: June 4 & 11, 10–11 a.m. Led by Carol Felice, Herbalist/Museum Educator at Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village. Learn to recognize useful, interesting, edible or medicinal plants on the Remick properties. Join in one or multiple walks. Each succeeding walk will teach participants to recognize plants as they change through their lifecycle and add new plants to their repertoire. Dress for the day’s weather and varied terrain; walks will be fun and casual attitude but feel free to bring a small notebook or camera to help your memory. Celebrate National Dairy Month, each Saturday in June, 2–3 p.m. Come to Remick Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village and help us celebrate. Doc Remick’s historic barn will be open, offering a chance to learn the history of his dairy business, Hillsdale Farm. Tour the 1930’s milk house to see how milk went from barn to table, meet the milk cows and talk with the farmer about the history of the dairy industry. A dairy sample will be available from our Farmhouse Kitchen. Tour is included with $5 Museum admission; please check in at the Museum Center. 603-323-7591.
Captain Enoch Remick House tours take place each Saturday in June, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Part of Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm, this stately house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its influence on the town of Tamworth, NH, and for its significant architectural qualities. Highlights include 19th-century murals attributed to the American painter John Avery, the original medical office and medicine room used by two country doctors, plus a host of antique furnishings and exhibits showcasing New England architecture, foodways, medical history and textiles. Remick Museum & Farm Homeschool Class: Dairy Cows. Monday, June 8 is the registration deadline for this June 15, 10 a.m.–12 p.m, class. Located in Tamworth Village, Remick offers seasonally-based classes for homeschool students (ages 6–12) the third Monday of each month during the school year. Discovery through the senses, combined with hands-on activities and discussion, encourages deeper understanding of each themed class. $5/participant. Students must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone, not left unattended. No charge for chaperones unless participating in the class project. No walk-ins. 603-323-7591.
Small Farmers Club: Get to Know Chickens. Friday, June 26, 10–11 a.m. A monthly, farm-fun hour for young children at Remick Museum & Farm, Tamworth Village. Interaction with the featured animal and an activity to complement learning. $5/child, ages 2–6. Parents/guardians must accompany child/children for duration of activity.
