The MWV Skating Club is pleased to announce that registration is open for the 2nd Annual Midnight Owl 15K which will take place on Saturday August 1, 2015. The event has the unique format of being a MIDNIGHT PREDICTION RUN in which the winner is the first runner (or walker) to cross the finish line AFTER midnight. The course will open at 9:30pm and participants will
decide when to start running based on their estimate of how long it will take them to cover the 15K (9.3 mile) course. For example, if a runner estimates it will take them an hour and 15 minutes to run the course they would start running at 10:45pm or when the countdown clock at the starting line reads -1:15:00. As this is a prediction run no watches or timing devices will be allowed.
The Midnight Owl 15K event is designed to appeal to both seasoned and beginner runners. Fifteen kilometers is an excellent build up race distance for seasoned runners as either a hard time trial or easy training run in preparation for a Fall half marathon or marathon. Less experienced runners and walkers, who may normally shy away from races of this distances, are accommodated by the course opening time of 9:30pm. Participants starting at this time need only maintain a 16:00 minute/mile pace to reach the finish line by midnight. A large pace chart will be located near the race start to aid participants in deciding when they should start their race.
The Midnight Owl 15K will start towards the back of Schouler Park across from the Conway Scenic Railroad and proceed counterclockwise around the park to Main Street. From there it will head north taking lefts onto
River Road and West Side Road. Participants will run the entire distance of West Side Road then take rights onto Washington Street then Main Street in Conway. From Main Street the course will bear left onto West Main Street, go by the Ham Arena, and take lefts onto Kennett Street and Hobbs Street ultimately finishing at the back entrance to the Ham Arena. A shuttle bus will transport runners back to Schouler Park.
Three water stops will be located along the course. All participants will be required to wear reflective vests/clothing and either wear a headlamp or carry a flashlight. Discounted Jog-a-Lite reflective vests can be purchased through the race registration website. In addition, a limited number of these vests will be available for purchase the night of the race.
