Day 1:  Hiking in the White Mountain National Forest

Awake and enjoy a lovely breakfast at your inn, B&B or resort.  Or, explore the restaurants and coffee houses in Mt Washington Valley.  A few options for breakfast include Priscilla’s Country Kitchen, Bagels Plus, or Big Dave’s Bagels and Deli  where breakfast is served all day!  You can pick up lunch to take with you too at these restaurants.

Late afternoon:  In need of a pick-me-up?  How about a hot or iced coffee at one of Mt Washington Valley’s coffee houses?  Stop into The Met Coffee House or Frontside Grind in North Conway,  J-Town Deli in Jackson or The Local Grocer in Intervale for a fabulous homemade pastry or cupcake and a cuppa Joe.

Dinner:  There are so many options to choose from!  If it’s a Tuesday, try Max’s Restaurant at Snowvillage Inn where locals are treated to a specially planned and price meal.  Hint:  On Tuesdays everyone’s a local at Max’s Restaurant.  Also in Eaton, the Palmer House Pub at the Inn at Crystal Lake is a great option.  And for fresh and local, fine dining or casual (you’ll find both here), try the Oxford House in Fryeburg.

Day 2:  Shopping Day

Everyone loves to shop while on vacation.  What makes it even better in Mt Washington Valley is that shopping at the region’s 200 outlets, shops, boutiques and stores is also tax-free.

Start the day in North Conway Village, visiting the independently owned specialty shops in the village and the Shops at Norcross Circle and Eastern Slope Inn Plaza.  Don’t miss Zeb’s General Store, home to the largest collection of New England-made specialty foods in the country and the  Handcrafters Barn for New-England made goods and Skinny towels and washcloths.  You’ll also want to be sure to visit The Penguin Gallery of NH for jewelry, gifts and home goods, Spruce Hurricane for unique women’s apparel and the coolest collection of boots, Beggar’s Pouch Leather for hand-made leather goods, Fields of Ambrosia or Funky Bubble for soaps, lotions and potions and Soy Fire Candle for unusual gifts.  For sporting goods try Olympia Sports, Stan and Dans, Bob & Terry’s Sports Outlet or Red Jersey Cycleryfor bikes and accessories.

From there, you may want to visit Settlers’ Green Outlet Village and Settlers’ Crossing where you’ll find more than 60 brand-name manufacturers outlets.  Whether you’re looking for back-to-school options for the kids, sports equipment, fine china, jewelry, home goods, specialty foods or men’s and women’s apparel, you’ll find it here.

Afternoon pick-me-up:  After an aerobic day of shopping, stop in to The White Mountain Cupcakery either in their Settlers’ Green or their North Conway Village location, or cool off with an ice cream cone at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, or Spoons Ice Cream Parlor at Horsefeathers.  There’s also Gelato at The Met Coffee Shop.

Day 3: Ziplining

There are plenty of options when it comes to ziplining in Mt Washington Valley.  Choose from any of these part-day zipline tours.

Attitash Mountain Resort, Bartlett, NH: Fly high on the new Attitash ZipTour above the tree canopy from the summit of Bear Peak over to mid-mountain of Attitash and from there to the base of Attitash. Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, Bretton Woods, NH: Situated high on the slopes of Bretton Woods and descending over 1000 feet of elevation, the 3-hour tour takes nature-lovers and thrill-seekers across a series of tree-top zip lines through a network of platforms high in the ancient hemlocks. Cranmore Mountain Resort , North Conway, NH: This thrill ride lets you experience the sensation of flying, while accelerating 700 feet down the mountainside on a suspended cable. Great for couples, you can even share the fun with your partner on the comfortable side-by-side seats. Monkey Trunks High Ropes Adventure and Zipline, Chocorua, NH: Participants begin with ground school and receive a safety instruction on how to navigate through the course. They then move on to the Green course to demonstrate they have the ability to properly use their equipment. After completing these two stages, participants will progress through the levels of the courses in order of Blue, Silver, Red and Black – each level becomes progressively more challenging. The course features eight ziplines over and through the trees, challenges that include swinging beams, tightropes, rolling logs, hanging tires, cargo nets and more.  All activities are as low as 10 feet and as high as 55 feet off the ground.  Reserve tickets online.  Click here.

Wildcat Mountain’s Ziprider, Pinkham Notch, NH: Mt Washington Valley’s only ZipRider is now twice the capacity and even more vertical fun with a total of 4 zip line cables. The Wildcat Mountain ZipRider descends 2,100 feet over the trails, treetops and the Peabody River to a landing platform located a short distance from the Main Base Lodge. Riders travel on cables suspended at heights up to 70 feet on a 12 percent grade, and reach speeds up to 45 miles per hour. Day 4:  Nature at its best

Finish your romantic getaway with a nature adventure.  Hand and camera-in-hand, enjoy a self-guided waterfall tour.  Mt Washington Valley abounds with gorgeous waterfalls, many of which are accessible or just a short hike from where you’ll park.  Click here for a list of all the scenic waterfalls in Mt Washington Valley and then set out on your own self-guided tour.  There’s nothing better than cooling off beneath the gentle falls along a cool mountain river at Jackson Falls or hiking in on a full-moon night for a little private skinny dipping in Diana’s Baths.

Dinner:  Consider the prix-fixed multi-course dinner at the Notchland Inn, served every night at 7:00pm or diner at the four-diamond Wentworth Inn.  Reservations required.  Any of the fine dining options in Mt Washington Valley make a great choice for the perfect romantic evening to end your couples getaway in Mt Washington Valley.

Another option for a wonderfully fun dinner is to dine aboard the Conway Scenic Railroad.  The dinner train combines a scenic trip with a nostalgic dining car experience and delicious food.
