Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson perform at Leura Hill Eastman PAC

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and former Byrds bassist Chris Hillman will be performing alongside legendary vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Herb Pedersen at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg on Tuesday, August 18th at 7:30 pm.

Chris and Herb have had a lasting musical friendship spanning over forty-five years, since their initial meeting in Los Angeles during the early folk and bluegrass movement. By the mid-nineties, Hillman and Pedersen began performing as an acoustic duo and have recorded several acclaimed albums together.

Arguably the pioneer of the country rock genre, Chris Hillman has carved a permanent niche in the history of contemporary American music. Through various Number One hit songs such as Mr. Tambourine Man and Turn! Turn! Turn!, Hillman helped The Byrds establish themselves as a cornerstone in the cultural and musical movement of the Sixties. In 1967, Hillman established himself as a songwriter with his first song, Time Between, noted by many as being the first country rock song. After his tenure with The Byrds, Hillman, along with Gram Parsons, formed The Flying Burrito Brothers, now looked upon as the forerunners of the alternative country rock style. From The Flying Burrito Brothers to Manassas and then on to Souther–Hillman–Furay, Chris Hillman continued to develop as a singer and songwriter.

Herb Pedersen began his career in Berkeley, California in the early 1960s, playing 5-string banjo and acoustic guitar with artists such as David Grisman, Butch Walker, and Jerry Garcia. His recording discography is like a ‘who’s who’ of the 1970s and 1980s folk and country music scenes. Emmylou Harris, John Denver, Linda Rondstadt, Vince Gill, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Prine have all recruited Herb for his multi-instrumental/vocal talents.
