On Wednesday, November 18, Memorial Hospital is offering the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Heartsaver® CPR/AED course at the Conway Village Fire Department from 5:30-9pm. This is a hands-on interactive class that teaches adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, as well as child and infant choking. Upon completion, participants will obtain a certification card from the AHA valid for two years.
This is a course designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who wants or needs the knowledge and a course completion card in CPR and AED use. Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care are included in the instruction.
About 92 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital, but statistics prove that if more people knew CPR, more lives could be saved. Immediate CPR can double, or even triple, a victim’s chance of survival, yet most Americans don’t know how to perform it.
According to the AHA, anyone can learn CPR. The organization is involved in the training of more than 12 million people every year to equip Americans with the skills they need to perform bystander CPR. More than 85% of cardiac arrests occur in the home so a life saved with CPR is most likely to be someone you know – a spouse, parent, neighbor or friend.
The cost of the program is $25, which includes the Heartsaver® CPR AED Student Workbook and the AHA course card. The session is limited to 25 people. Registration deadline is November 16. These classes sell out and space cannot be reserved without payment at time of registration.
