The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Met Opera Live in HD series is returning to the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center for the 2017-18 season starting on Saturday, October 7th. Located inside Fryeburg Academy’s state-of-the-art theater, the live simulcast’s high-definition picture and surround sound audio makes it seem as if you are watching the performance from inside New York City’s famed opera house.
The 2017-18 season opens with a new production of Bellini’s masterpiece, Norma, on October 7th at 1:00 pm. Sir David McVicar’s evocative production—starring Radvanovsky as the Druid priestess and Joyce DiDonato as her archrival—sets the action deep in a Druid forest where nature and ancient ritual rule. The run time of the show is approximately three hours with one intermission. Light refreshments will be available during intermission.
Joe De Vito will be returning to host his always informative and entertaining Opera Lecture Series every Thursday before a Live in HD show at 3:00 pm. De Vito’s workshop, which is free and open to all, provides an in-depth look at the upcoming opera’s music, story, composer, and much more.
The 2017-18 season will also feature Die Zauberflote (October 14th), The Exterminating Angel (November 18th), Tosca (January 27th), L’Elisir d’Amore (February 10th), La Boheme (February 24th), Semiramide (March 10th), Cosi fan tutte (March 31st), Luisa Miller (April 14th), and Cendrillon (April 28th).
Single tickets are $26 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $18 for students. You can purchase tickets in advance online at http://www.fryeburgacademy.org, or by calling the box office at 207-935-9232.
