Founded in 1997, AbilityPLUS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of program participants, their families, friends and a community of volunteers who together provide life changing, year ’round adaptive sports and recreation for people with any type of disability.

Winterfest with AbilityPLUS!

Wow- we are already into February! The good news is the groundhog says we have at least six more weeks of winter, and with this week’s snow-storms as a preview, I’m betting he’s conservative with his estimate!

February also means AbilityPLUS at Mount Snow is busy getting the word out about our Winterfest fundraiser at Mount Snow, set for Saturday, March 1. This year we join Mount Snow’s Mardi Gras celebration, with our Ski/Ride-Til-You-Drop-A-Thon, plenty of beads, and a prize wheel to benefit AbilityPLUS, courtesy of Verizon Wireless.

Following the Ski/Ride-A-Thon, join us for our Mardi Gras themed après party, with expanded buffet, raffle, and live and silent auctions, at The Lodge at Mount Snow. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to catch up with friends while helping us go beyond our $30,000 fundraising goal.

Ask friends and family to sponsor you for the day, or by the number of runs you complete, in support of AbilityPLUS adaptive sports and recreation programs at Mount Snow.

We’re also asking for help acquiring items for the live and silent auctions, along with some great prizes for our raffles. Big-ticket items such as vacations, airline tickets, hotel stays, electronics, and ski/snowboard equipment are particularly important, but we need items that run the gamut. We’ll be creating gift baskets for both our raffle and silent auction. No donated item is too great or too small!

AbilityPLUS program fees cover only about 1/10 of the actual cost of providing our programs. We rely on the generosity of individual donors, sponsors, and of course our volunteers, to fulfill our mission. Thanks to your ongoing support, no one is ever turned away from an AbilityPLUS program for lack of ability to pay. Winterfest at Mount Snow is the largest fundraising event we hold each ski season. Please join us!

Attitash Mountain Resort and Wildcat Mountain believe that giving to the community is an essential part of its success and supports hundreds of organizations and events each year. Asked frequently to support charities of all types, Attitash and Wildcat Mountain annually support the local community and region by providing charitable contributions. Annually, they review hundreds of requests and donate accordingly with emphasis on local education and public health organizations. This past season, over $40,000 in lift ticket and season pass products alone were donated to help with those charitable fundraising efforts.

In addition to annual donations, other opportunities to help raise funds include events on and off the snow. On the snow, one example is the Attitash U Go Girl race series that helped raise $1,700 to benefit local organization Jen’s Friends Cancer Foundation that provides supplemental financial assistance and other resources to cancer patients and their families in the Mount Washington Valley. Also notable this past season, Wildcat Mountain hosted its annual 100,000 Vertical Foot Challenge and participants of that were able to collectively raise over $133,000 in pledge donations to set a new event record high donation

amount for Make-A-Wish of New Hampshire.

Off the snow, Attitash and Wildcat hold an annual season passholder party at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel where attendees can enjoy complimentary food, beverages, raffle door prizes, DJ & dancing. While having fun and socializing is the primary objective to attend, one of the highlights of the annual season passholder parties has been both the silent and live auctions to benefit local organizations. This past winter, specific items and services from both Attitash Mountain Resort and Wildcat Mountain were designated to benefit AbilityPLUS Inc. adaptive ski program, Bartlett Recreation Department, or the Berlin Recreation Department. Some of the items included vintage trail signs, large trail maps, season passes, photos, and custom-made ski furniture donated by SkiChair.com. This year’s event saw Attitash and Wildcat season passholders raise a combined total of $7,722 to benefit the three organizations.
