Apres Ski and live entertainment in Mt Washington Valley, NH – Feb 15-25, 2018

When the lifts close, the apres ski fun begins.  For some, it lasts well into the night.  Our readers asked us to share insight into nightlife opportunities in Mt Washington Valley, so each week we’ll compile a list of live entertainment and apres ski fun.

Feb 17:  Kitty Cat’s Apres Ski Entertainment: Parents, enjoy good times with adults in the pub while children have fun in the Lion’s Den located on the ground floor of the Wildcat Base Lodge.
Cost is $5.00 per child and includes supervision, children’s movie, cookie decorating and arts & crafts.

Feb 17: Torchlight Parade: Ski Patrol and Ski School will journey down the hill just after dusk to form the Torchlight Parade. This is a great event that brings families and friends together on the ski mountain. 5:30-6:00pm.

Feb 20:  Kitty Litter Cardboard Box Race: A fun, free, February Vacation tradition for kids. Build your own “vessel” out of cardboard boxes and go for the fastest run of the day, best decorated, best crash or judges’ choice awarded prizes. All vessels will be inspected to make sure they fit the standards prior to racing. Decorating is encouraged. Pre-registration Required: Guest Services 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Feb 21: 9 Lives Lunch Tray Luge: Another February Vacation Tradition.  Race down the luge track on lunch trays! Free.  Noon-1:00pm.

Feb 24: Crazy Hat Day: Dig deep into your closets and imagination to find the craziest, weirdest, wackiest, funniest, hat. Meet on the front lawn at 2 p.m. where the winner will take home the Grand Prize

Feb 24: Double Feature Throw Down Competition: In the Terrain Park on the North Slope for skiers and snowboarders.  Open to all ages.

Apres ski at Bretton Woods Ski Resort

Feb 17, 18, 19, 20, 21: Adult Apres Ski Party, 3:00-5:50pm: When you’re finished with a great day on the trails, head to the 3rd floor and listen to some après ski entertainment. Try a new brew at Slopeside Pub located on the 3rd level of the Bretton Woods Base Lodge. Entertainment will be from 3:00pm-5:30pm and Bar Promos are from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

Feb 17, 18, 19, 20, 21: Kids Apres Ski Party: 3:30-5:00pm: Kids ages 4-12 are welcome to join in this special supervised après ski fun upstairs in the Mount Washington View Room, located on the Heaven Level of the Bretton Woods Base Lodge.  Special après parties are scheduled on most Saturday’s throughout the year and during vacation and holiday periods.  Each party will include live entertainment, games, activities, and refreshments for kids.  Parents are welcome to leave their kids at this supervised program and enjoy entertainment at the Slopeside Lounge.  Reservations are not required for this complimentary program. Feb 24-25: Winter Games Weekend with Gilson Snowboard & Ski Co: Join Gilson on the mountain all weekend long with a demo on both Saturday and Sunday! Just visit the demo area next to the canopy tour building at Bretton Woods for a custom fit set and an opportunity to discover a new favorite. Fridays in February:  Torchlight Snow Tubing at King Pine: Experience the fun of lift-serviced torchlight night snowtubing down exciting snow chutes at our Pine Meadows Tubing Park!

Feb 17, 24: Say hello to Powder Bear: King Pine’s mascot, Powder Bear, will be out and about offering greetings to young skiers from 2:00-3:00pm.

Feb 17, 24: Horse Drawn Sleighrides, 11am – 1:00pm: Enjoy the classic experience of riding among surrounding fields and within wooded trails in a horse-driven sleigh. In addition to the approximate 15-20-minute ride in the sleigh, warm up by an outdoor fire before and after your ride and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa. $20 for age 13+; $15 for 12 and under.

Feb 17:  Kid’s Fun Race: Head to the bottom of the open slope for this fun race for kids. Weather dependent, 11:00am – 1:00pm.

Feb 17:  Saturday night family racing: A dual recreation race under the lights, 6:00-8:00pm.  Free with a lift ticket.

Feb 18: Winter Trails Nordic Demo Day with EMS: King Pine is celebrating Winter Trail’s with EMS throughout this season by offering complimentary Nordic passes to first-timers. In addition, EMS will have demo cross country skis and snowshoes available for on snow clinics with the EMS crew from 9am to 2 pm. First timers, ages 12 and above, are invited to join EMS for on snow clinics at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sign up in advance at the EMS tent on the day of and receive a complimentary trail pass with your clinic.  There is limited availability for the clinics which will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Feb 18-24: Overnight Ski & Snowboard Camp: This Feb vacation King Pine tradition is for kids ages 8-17 and includes a full week of skiing, riding and instruction, plus fun events for the kids.  Click here for complete info.

Feb 18-23: Winter Carnival at King Pine: Look for a full week of scheduled events including Silly Slalom & Belly Bag Races, Family Challenge Races, Sleigh rides, snowshoe tours, Gold Rush, Kids Fun Race, Fireworks over King Pine on Thursday, February 22 and Campfire and S’mores – Friday, February 26.

Feb 22: Gold Rush:  Look for candy & goodies scattered throughout the Pokey Pine Trail starting at 1:00pm.

Apres Ski at Shawnee Peak

Feb 16: College Night #3 at Shawnee Peak: From 3pm to 9pm, lift tickets are just $20, a savings of $15 and Rentals are just $15, a savings of $12 for college students and professors/staff.  College ID required.

Feb 17-23: February Vacation Week:  Shawnee Peak will be open for night skiing every night until 9:00pm.

Feb 20: Live Stand Up Comedy with Bob Marley: Don’t miss this live show by Maine’s famous and well-loved comedian Bob Marley in the Shawnee Peak Great Room. The show begins at 7.30pm, tickets are available currently through Guest Services or online for $30.This is a fundraising event for Shawnee Peak’s Adaptive program! There will be a cash bar in the Great Room during the event.

Feb 22: Family Fun Day: Family Day is a kid-oriented day on the slopes.  All events are free and open to the public. In honor of Shawnee Peak’s 80th birthday, 80 years of memories is the theme! There is a costume contest for both young and old, Face Painting and arts and crafts in the Great Room, a scavenger hunt on the Mountain and around the base lodge, Family obstacle race, Skillet toss, Sack Race, Snow Volley Ball and Tug of war, BBQ, crafts and so much more. Dress up and join in the parade. Prizes will be awarded, and fun is a guarantee!     

Feb 23: Ride & Ski apres ski party: Join the Ride & Ski Card friends at Blizzard’s Pub after a great day of skiing.           

Feb 24:  Bubble Soccer: Try something new on the slopes! Teams sign up on a first come first serve basis. Cost will be $5 pp. Click here for the rules and lowdown.

Feb 24 Ski with Spring Luau, Sam Adams & Fireworks: End the vacation week with a cold Sam Adams in Blizzards Pub, along with a Spring luau and fireworks kicking off at 8:00pm.

Feb 25: Russ Haggett Memorial Race: Russ Haggett, a 2003 inductee to the Ski Maine Hall of Fame, was Pleasant Mountain’s general manager throughout the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Haggett’s vision and ambition made Pleasant Mountain into a true winter destination, thus improving the Lakes Region winter economy forever. The Russ Haggett Memorial Race is a family-fun race, for Skiers and Snowboarders of all ages and ability, and a great opportunity for beginners to experience downhill ski racing. Race day registration 8:30am-10:30am. Race fee $15.  Race begins at 11:00am. Door prizes and awards will be handed out at 1:30pm. Apres ski at Great Glen Trails/MW Auto Road

Feb 18: Sunrise Snowcoach Tour: Experienced SnowCoach drivers will take you to treeline (weather permitting) at 4,200 feet on the Mt. Washington Auto Road for a chance to watch the sun rise. Plan to leave promptly at 5:45am from the base lodge. Even if you don’t actually get to the see the sun rise, you can be sure the early morning lighting at treeline will make for incredible and unforgettable scenes. Click here for info & reservations.

Feb 24: Evening snowshoe tour: Experience the wonder of a night time winter walk. Join a Naturalist from the Appalachian Mountain Club on a guided snowshoe tour. Reservations required, and tours fill fast. For questions, please call (603) 466-3988. Online registration here.

Feb 17: 8th Annual Whitaker Woods Snowshoe Scramble: This Snowshoe Scramble is a 4-mile snowshoe race on groomed trails and twisty singletrack winding through Whitaker Woods in North Conway Village.  Registration is $20 per person and may be done online or at the event from 8:30 – 9:30 am.  Race start is 10 am sharp! $200 in prizes to giveaway.  Lodging discounts available. Dion snowshoe rentals available for $5 on first come first served basis.  This is an annual fundraiser for the nonprofit Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring Foundation. Feb 25: 29th Annual Chocolate Festival: Known by many as the ‘Sweetest Day on the Trails”, this may be the only day of the year when chocolate indulgence is totally guilt-free, 11:00am – 4:00pm! Chocoholics cross country ski or snowshoe the trails to enjoy chocolate prepared every way imaginable. Chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate fountains and fondue, brownie sundaes, and chocolate cookies of all kinds are just some of the treats you’ll enjoy at the trailside stops between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. Take a minute to view the Festival Map online. Every participant will have a Festival map and brochure for each trailside business to validate to confirm your stop. Feb 17: Free Evening Program: Live Peregrine Falcons: During this program, a Squam Lakes Science Center naturalist will introduce you to three live animals native to New Hampshire, including a Peregrine Falcon, and share the inspiring stories of three Earth Heroes whose work helped to ensure the survival of some amazing animals. 6:00-7:00pm.  $5.00 suggested donation.

Al (also known as “the Rev”) is a singer/guitarist who’s been pleasing audiences throughout New England for more years than he cares to admit to. He has served as front man for several successful bands and currently performs mostly as a solo artist and also with his backup band, The fabulous Revtones. Many of his performances are centered in the Mount Washington Valley of NH, where he makes his home. The music is classic “songs you know by heart”, sure to stir up happy memories.

Feb 21: The North Conway Public Library will present Ken Gloss: A frequent guest appraiser on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, Fen Gloss will be on hand for a discussion of the value of old and rare books. Gloss, owner of the internationally known Brattle Book Shop in Boston’s Downtown Crossing section, will give the free and open talk on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Obs-Weather Discovery Center in North Conway Village, in the fully accessible downstairs meeting room.  Gloss will talk about and show some of his favorite finds of old and rare books and describe some of the joys of the “hunt,” as well as explain what makes a book go up in value. He has many fascinating anecdotes to share as well as guidelines for what to look for when starting a collection. There is also a Q&A session before the conclusion of his talk.

Feb 11: Hope on the Slopes Race to Beat Cancer: The 41st annual Race to Beat Cancer will take place in North Conway on Sunday, February 11th at Cranmore Mountain Resort. Skiers and snowboarders can participate in the race contributing a minimum of $80 ($50 for those 17 and under). The day includes a full-day lift, organic, locally sourced pizza courtesy of Flatbread Company. Feb 10: Nordic Marathon to benefit New England Ski Museum: This 42-kilometer, classic format, cross country ski race showcases one of the largest Nordic systems in the northeast.  In the tracks of the famed 1982 US National Championships and such legends as Bill Koch and Tim Caldwell, this race is steeped in history and Nordic skiing tradition. The course layout provides a challenge to experienced racers while making use of terrain that is accessible and enjoyable for skiers of all abilities. Info: here.

Feb 11: 44th Annual Mount Washington Cup: This 44th annual 10k Freestyle (skate ski) Race, is part of the ZAK Cup Series. Located on the grounds of the Mount Washington Hotel and the White Mountain National Forest, the 100-km trail network crosses open fields, meanders through woods of spruce and fir, passes beaver ponds and mountain streams, and traverses open hardwood stands. 7:30-9:00am: Race registration, 10:00am, Mass start.  For full info, click here.

Feb 18: Sunrise Snowcoach Tour: Experienced SnowCoach drivers will take you to treeline (weather permitting) at 4,200 feet on the Mt. Washington Auto Road for a chance to watch the sun rise. Feb 21: The North Conway Public Library will present Ken Gloss: A frequent guest appraiser on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow,Fen Gloss will be on hand for a discussion of the value of old and rare books. Gloss, owner of the internationally known Brattle Book Shop in Boston’s Downtown Crossing section, will give the free and open talk on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Obs-Weather Discovery Center in North Conway Village, in the fully accessible downstairs meeting room.  Gloss will talk about and show some of his favorite finds of old and rare books and describe some of the joys of the “hunt,” as well as explain what makes a book go up in value. He has many fascinating anecdotes to share as well as guidelines for what to look for when starting a collection. There is also a Q&A session before the conclusion of his talk.

Jan 6 & 13: Cranapalooza! As the afternoon winds down, the festivities begin at Cranmore Mountain. Cranapalooza is a festival of music, entertainment and games hosted by no other than North Conway’s favorite penguin, C-More.

Jan 6:  Vertical Challenge at Cranmore: A casual, fun & free race for all ages on Cranmore’s NASTAR course. The Vertical Challenge crew hosts family-friendly activities all day long at the base of Cranmore’s North Slope, with plenty of games & giveaways.

  • Jan 6, 13, 14: Adult Apres Ski Party, 3:00-5:50pm: When you’re finished with a great day on the trails, head to the 3rd floor and listen to some après ski entertainment. Try a new brew at Slopeside Pub located on the 3rd level of the Bretton Woods Base Lodge. Entertainment will be from 3:00pm-5:30pm and Bar Promos are from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
  • Jan 6 13, 14: Kids Apres Ski Party: 3:30-5:00pm: Kids ages 4-12 are welcome to join in this special supervised après ski fun upstairs in the Mount Washington View Room, located on the Heaven Level of the Bretton Woods Base Lodge.  Special après parties are scheduled on most Saturday’s throughout the year and during vacation and holiday periods.  Each party will include live entertainment, games, activities, and refreshments for kids.  Parents are welcome to leave their kids at this supervised program and enjoy entertainment at the Slopeside Lounge.  Reservations are not required for this complimentary program. Jan 14: Sunrise Snow Coach Tour: Experienced SnowCoach drivers will take you to treeline (weather permitting) at 4,200ft on the Mt. Washington Auto Road for a chance to watch the sun rise. Plan to leave promptly at 6:15am from the base lodge. Even if we don’t actually get to the see the sun rise, you can be sure the early morning lighting at treeline will make for incredible and unforgettable scenes.

Every Friday: Al Shafner: Catch Al from 7:30-10:00pm in the Tavern. Al (also known as “the Rev”) is a singer/guitarist who’s been pleasing audiences throughout New England for more years than he cares to admit to. He has served as front man for several successful bands and currently performs mostly as a solo artist and also with his backup band, The fabulous Revtones. The majority of his performances are centered in the Mount Washington Valley of NH, where he makes his home. The music is classic “songs you know by heart”, sure to stir up happy memories.

January 6: Concert to Support Recovery Efforts in MWV: The evening of music will start off 6 p.m. with a community pot luck dinner of soups, lasagna and other enticing food offerings served up in hand-thrown, hand-crafted pottery bowls donated by local potter Jennie Lanoie. Dinner follows with a concert by folk duo Bennett & Perkins. The performance, takes place in MWV Supports Recovery Endeavor House in Center Conway, NH (just west of the Conway Town Hall). Concert proceeds will also benefit A New Life, a prenatal group program for those recovering from substance misuse disorder. Tickets are  $25 per person and may be purchased online in advance at www.bennettandperkins.com. January 6: Jackson Art Studio’s Winter Funky Tree Sip & Paint With Melanie Levitt: Class will start PROMPTLY at 6pm.  PLEASE ARRIVE  15-20 min. prior to class starting. Fun for the absolute beginner to the seasoned artist! Spend an evening of creativity as you twist  open your favorite bottle of wine (BYOB for those 21 and over) and uncork your creativity! The instructor will guide you step by step- easy, stress free, & affordable! $45  all supplies included.

January 6: Pace Gallery Reception: The Pace Galleries of Art will be hosting a reception for its current exhibition, Fryeburg Academy Creates from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The exhibition is a group show featuring Fryeburg Academy faculty and staff creativity outside the classroom, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and video installations. The artists will be in attendance to discuss their artistic process and inspiration. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served. The Pace Galleries of Art is located inside the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at 18 Bradley Street in Fryeburg, ME.

January 13: 20th Anniversary Kick Off Party with Mallet Bros at Tuckerman Brewing: 2018 marks Tuckerman Brewing’s 20th year of crafting delicious beer. To celebrate come for an outdoor celebration that will include a large heated tent, a special edition beer and The Mallett Brothers Band. Food will be available. Kids activities will be set-up and sponsored by The MWV Children’s Museum. Cover charge $10.

January 13: Country Jamboree at Leura Eastman PAC at Fryeburg Academy: Featuring an incredibly talented cast that has performed with some of country music‘s most popular artists, this outstanding performance features the music of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, and more. January 14:  Bennett & Perkins at Tuckerman Brewing: A free family-friendly indoor concert at Tuckerman Brewing from 2:00-5:00pm. Part of the Tuckerman Brewing Company Music Series.

January 19-20: Stonehurst Manor’s Ice Bar: Enjoy specialty cocktails and giveaways.  Hors d’oeuvres will be passed all night. There will be dancing to the Music Man, a fashion show by Spruce Hurricane and the fire pits will be burning to keep you warm surrounded by hay bales for seating. Tickets must be ordered in advance and tickets for Jan 20 are already sold out, so order soon.  All tickets are non-refundable and will be held for pickup at the door.
