It has been five years running now and Leadership MWV – Community Connections keeps growing and growing. This program aims to develop professionals within The Mt. Washington Valley and provide opportunities for community involvement, civic leadership and professional mentorship. It fosters knowledge transfer between participants and facilitators and hands-on-learning about generating new participation on local boards; providing one-to-one guidance by existing community leaders to up-and-coming professionals and citizens and empowering those with leadership capabilities to act effectively to help solve local problems. Applications are open, with an exclusive number of 15 seats and scholarships are available for the 500 dollar price for participating in this program! Send all questions and applications to Sarah@mtwashingtonvalley.org. The deadline to apply for this program is December 15th.
Leadership MWV classes start in January 2012 and end with a graduation ceremony in June. Classes consists of eight interactive sessions with a recognized member of the community to lead individual topics and a major field trip, (last year’s class was lucky enough to go on a refueling mission with The National Guard), that range from understanding local government, education and healthcare to optimizing performance in the workplace. Students also attend the Business to Business Expo in May, as a guest of The Chamber and Economic Council. Click for a full tentative Leadership MWV schedule for 2012. Meetings are held in arenas that fit the topic of the week and a catered lunch is served at every class.
Participants have the chance to network with influential figures throughout The Valley and to tap into a wide knowledge base of professionals who know what it takes to be a real leader. They also gain real-life skills on how to run a meeting effectively using Robert’s Rules of Order and how to address, organize and appropriately attack real life business issues.
Leadership MWV is facilitated by The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and MWV Economic Council and sponsored by Northway Bank. “On behalf of myself, Jac Cuddy and all of our generous sponsors, we truly believe that by taking this class you become an invaluable member to not only our community, but to your job as well. The skill sets you will learn and develop through this program are what bosses only wish for when hiring a new employee.” Janice Crawford, Executive Director of The Chamber. As a past student of Leadership MWV, Matt Parker found his time in this program well spent creating “a great network and making contacts throughout the Valley in a professional and fun environment.”
Everyone at the Chamber and the Economic Council is looking forward to another successful year for Leadership MWV and are hoping that you are a part of it!
