2017 Chili Cook-Off and Feelin’ Good 5K Race

Saturday, April 8th is the time to shake off the winter chills and join us for a fabulous foodie event to kick off our Spring season here in Mt Washington Valley! There will be plenty of chili and cornbread to keep you fueled for a day of fun, festivity, and a 5K race, plus North Conway Village shopping and the event’s  Red Hot Stops where you can find treats and shopping deals.

chili-5k-logoThis is the first year of the Feelin’ Good 5k Race through the White Mountain Milers. Burn some calories before indulging in chili and cornbread samples at the Cook-Off and explore beautiful North Conway Village by running or walking in the race! The race kicks off at Schouler Park in North Conway at 9:30am, where participants will race around the village and near Cranmore Mountain, finishing back at the park. Awards will be given to the top three overall runners and walkers.

The Feelin’ Good 5K is open for registration through White Mountain Milers and the RunReg website. The Race Fee is $35 per person and includes your entry to the Chili Cook-Off, access to the After Party at Abenaki Trail Restaurant, and store discounts at the Red Hot Stops.

Event Schedule:
  • 8:00AM – 5K Registration/Bib pick up

  • 11:00AM – Chili Cook-Off Doors open

About the Annual Chili Cookoff

Hosted by the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, the annual Chili Cook-off has featured the culinary creations of professional chefs, individuals, local organizations, and nonprofits for many years. What started with just a few vendors has now grown to more than 40 vendors. Hundreds of hungry chili fans will fill The Village of North Conway tasting the best of the Valley’s chili recipes.

Professional and non-professional chefs are welcome to register their team for their chance to win fabulous prizes and bragging rights. Chef registration is open and filling up fast! There are a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for businesses to promote their brand. Sponsorship packages vary in cost and exposure and there are packages available for nonprofits. For more information, please review the 2017 Chili Cook-Off Sponsorship Packages document or contact the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce.

chili-cookoff2In this event, ticket holders are judges, too! In purchasing tickets and sampling many delicious chili and cornbread recipes, ticket holders are in control of the “People’s Choice” vote. Ticket holders will receive three different colored tickets for use as ballots – one for Best Chili, one for Best Cornbread, and one for Best Display of Theme.

Tickets for the Chili Cook-Off are $15 for adults and $7 for children, with free admission for children under 3. Interested parties may purchase Early Bird tickets by contacting the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, and tickets will be available on the day of the event for the same prices at the ticket booth.

Chili, cornbread and beer tastings, oh my!

You may know Mt Washington Valley, NH as the top place to visit for all things outdoor adventure. With thirteen Alpine and Nordic ski areas, tubing, snowmobiling, hiking, ice climbing and more, there is never any shortage of events and activities to enjoy with friends and family outdoors. So with all this outdoor fun, we’re bound and determined to keep you properly fueled. Just to add to the mix, one foodie adventure are coming up: The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Chilly Chili Cookoff will take place on February 28, 2015.

chili_20141Come sample more than forty exclusive chili recipes from local amateur and professional chefs at the 12th Annual Chilly Chili Cookoff on February 28 from 11:00am to 3:00pm in North Conway Village. The Professional Chefs represent working chefs in a restaurant or catering company vying for the top three awards which are judged by a set of judges overseen by the International Chili Society. The People’s Choice division feature chilis made by non-profits throughout the Mt. Washington Valley and the top three winners are chosen by festival goers.

Chilifest-3-1-14-Chilirevelers-WGCphotoEach chef is showcasing their own personal recipes with specialty meats, secret blends of spices and unique ingredients such as chocolate. We take our chili very seriously here in the Mt. Washington Valley so you’re going to want to make sure you have savored each and every bite. The first, second and third place champions of last year’s competition will be returning to try and regain their top spot, so be sure to be a part of the action.

Beer, mead and wine tastings along with a cornbread recipe competition and shopping specials are all part of the fun as well. Other North Conway Village happenings open to chili ticket holders include a Tuckerman Brewing Co. beer promo, specialty chili tasting and margarita tasting at Rafferty’s Pub, Cabot cheese and hot cider pairing at The Rugged Mill, Smuttynose Beer and chili sampling at Chef’s Market Bistroand a wine and chili pairing at White Mountain Winery.

General admission tickets are $15.00 for adults, $7.00 for children twelve and under and free for children five and under.  For $35.00 VIP ticket holders will enjoy a private tasting with specialty beer and wine pairings with the Professional Chefs, a goody bag with local gift items such as fleece scarves from Ragged Mountain, cheese from Cabot Creamery, chocolate from Lindt Chocolate shop and Skinny Towel washcloths and more as well as a ticket to the private awards ceremony for the chefs at 4:00pm at Horsefeathers Restaurant.

If the Chilly Chili Cookoff leave you hungry for more foodie fun, be sure to join in on the fun with the AMC International Dinner Series. You will enjoy a four-course family-style dinner featuring food from a different country paired with a presentation on outdoor recreation in that particular country. Giveaways are part of the evening’s fun and you can even bring your own beverage of choice. Tickets are $29.00 for non-members and $24.00 for members. Upcoming dates include Feb 24, March 4 and March 11, with cuisine of Portugal, St. Maarten and South America to be prepared, respectively. Dinner begins at 6:00pm with the presentation to follow.

Whats_Your_StoryWhat’s your story? Join Snowvillage Inn on Feb. 26 for dinner at the inn’s restaurant, Max’s Tavern and an evening of story-telling, told live by professional comedians, actors and speakers. The show is improvisational and emulates the format of “The Moth” radio. Each show starts with a theme which the storyteller explores in unexpected ways, often for an experience which is both hysterical and exhilarating. Tickets are $25.00 and include a three-course dinner. The doors open at 5:00pm with dinner at 6:00pm and the show to follow. Max’s Tavern features an epicurean adventure of locally-sourced and handmade food with soups and salads, light bites entrees and decadent desserts. Craft cocktails made by infamous bartender and inn owner, Kevin Flynn await you while friendly staff welcomes you.

If you’re not already one, become a foodie at the Taste of the Mountains Cooking School at the Bernerhof Inn in Bartlett. Learn from the master chefs who live locally or visit from afar to teach classes from bread-making and baking to international cuisine to themed dinners and more. Each class includes a three hour hands-on instruction; all recipes from the menu for that day, a Taste of the Mountains Cooking School apron; food tasting; wine, beer or iced tea to accompany your prepared meal; a photo with your chef or instructor and a diploma for your courses taught (non-accredited). Price depends on the class booked and lodging packages are available at the Bernerhof Inn. Upcoming classes include “Recipes from New England” on February 21 and “Fondue with Friends” on February 26.

Mt. Washington Valley is the epicenter of all things adventure from mountain fun to foodie happenings. Enjoy every last bite with these upcoming events all focused on the love of food. It’s ok to indulge because you’ll be able to work off all the calories as you play in Mother Nature’s playground the very next day.

You’re invited to showcase your cooking skills, interact with the community and compete for cash and Chamber advertising prizes! Register to be a chef at 2015’s Chilly Chili Cookoff and bring the heat, as you challenge 2014’s winners for a chance at first, second or third place.

Chefs, that work in or own a restaurant or catering company compete for cash prizes and Chamber advertising packages. A panel of judges chooses first, second, and third place winners, based on aroma, consistency, and taste.

People’s Choice

This is an amateur-friendly cookoff opened to all “Non-Profits. It is a fun way for organizations to increase their public awareness. Prizes include trophies and Chamber advertising packages.

Calling All Chefs for the 11th Annual Chilly Chili Cookoff


The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce is cooking up the biggest and best Chilly chili_play_buttonChili Cookoff yet! Join the Chamber and New Hampshire Public Television (NHPTV) in the North Conway Village on Saturday, March 1st and sample over forty unique chili recipes made by professional and amateur chefs throughout the valley.  Part of the event proceeds benefit NHPTV. 2014 marks the 11th year the Chilly Chili Cookoff has been providing a spotlight to featured chefs and businesses in the valley. Recognized as an anchor event for chili enthusiasts, the Chilly Chili Cookoff has been a destination for chili competitions and has a focus on chefs more than ever. With cash and advertising prizes for first, second and third place entries in both divisions for “Professional Chef” and “People’s Choice,” those with a passion for cooking and community are encouraged to sign up! Meat and vegetarian chilis are welcomed and cornbread recipes can accompany the chili and be voted on as well. There is also a division for “Best Booth Theme.”

chili_cookoff4To enter as a “Professional Chef,” one must work as chef or in the kitchen of a restaurant that serves food to the public. As “Professional Chef” entrant, you will set-up and present at the Gibson Center and winners will be determined by panel of professional judges, focusing on aroma, consistency and taste. Entry as a “Professional Chef” is 50.00 dollars.

“People’s Choice Chef’s” may enter as individual chef and must represent a non-profit from the Mt. Washington Valley of their choice.  “People’s Choice Chef’s” will set-up at the North Conway Community Center and at retail stores throughout the village. This is an amateur-friendly competition and winners are based on votes from visitors and locals attending the event. Entry as a “People’s Choice Chef” is 35.00 dollars and for the first 25 chefs to sign up, they get a $25.00 gift certificate to North Conway Hannaford and a sampling of Cabot cheese to use as a chili topping at their booth.
