May 23, 2017

mwvcc golf tournament.pngTee off with friends at the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 16th, at the North Conway Country Club. This is a fun, scramble format tournament for golfers of all abilities and a wonderful way to kick off Father’s Day weekend. To register, visit www.golfmwv.com or contact Scott Gleason at 978-758- 1039.

Registration opens at 7:45am and runs until 8:50am, with announcements at 8:50am and the shotgun start at 9:00am. The tournament has a planned five-hour playing time, and convenes for a 2:00pm barbecue lunch where winners will be announced and players can bid on a silent auction. Players can register as individuals for $120.00, or as teams of four, for $400.00.

Last year’s popular Event’s Punch Card returns for this tournament and can be purchased for $25 with your online or day of play registration. The card allows entry to various on-course events and includes raffle tickets, mulligans and, NEW this year, the Hole #10 Golf Ball Launcher sponsored by Eastern Propane & Oil to exclusively benefit MWV Leadership scholarship assistance programs. You get to shoot your own ball, hopefully, onto the green 354 yards away.

In addition to awards, and raffles, there are many “Hole-in- One” prizes to win, sponsored by members of the community. Crest Auto World is sponsoring Hole #4, where the first player to hit a hole-in- one will win a 2017 Fiat 500. Profile Power Sports is sponsoring Hole #13, where the first player to hit a hole-in- one will win an ATV. Other Hole-in- One prizes include a set of Titleist Irons, and a $750 Gift Certificate for North Conway Country Club Pro Shop.

“The annual Chamber golf tournament is all about having fun. While we’re all there to play, and improve our handicap, we get to enjoy friends and colleagues, a fantastic course, delicious lunch and a fun event to spend time with Dad,” says Scott Gleason, event coordinator for the tournament.

Golf sponsorship opportunities are open to businesses looking to maximize their exposure in front of the community, with a fit for any budget. Businesses can have its name and logo on tee signs, the golf tournament website and more, depending on what level of participation business owners are interested in.

Tournament sponsors include Crest Auto World, Profile Power Sports, Chalmer’s Insurance Group, Eastern Propane & Oil, White Mountain Dental Associates, Coca-Cola, Fields of Ambrosia and TD Bank.

For more information on the Mt. Washington Valley’s 16th Annual Golf Tournament registration or sponsorship, contact Scott Gleason at 978-758- 1039, or visit www.golfmwv.com.

About KHS Project Graduation
Statistically, graduation night is one of the riskiest nights in a teenager’s life. Project Graduation provides high school graduates a safe, fun-filled, all-night post graduation activities in a drug and alcohol free environment. The primary aims of Project Graduation activities are to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking, drugging and driving and to reduce the number of youth involved in alcohol and other drug-related highway crashes. Across the country, Project Graduation and the chemical-free celebrations it inspired are the new tradition for graduating seniors. In Perspectives in Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Project Graduation- Maine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention observed that “Project Graduation has become much more than an event that occurs on graduation night. It is a communitywide planning process that strives to create a caring, supportive environment and more open communication between youths and adults.”

Hale’s Location Golf Course and The White Mountain Hotel & Resort announce Fundraiser Golf Tournament and Dinner to benefit Hale’s Location wayne_sprouse_webGolf Pro, Wayne Sprouse

Hale’s Location Golf Course, Hale’s Location Owners Association, The White Mountain Hotel & Resort and Jonathan Rivers of the Indian Mound Golf Course will host three 9-hole shotgun golf tournaments on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Hale’s Location Golf Course in Hale’s Location, NH to support the Wayne L. Sprouse Medical Expenses Fund. The tournament will be followed by a dinner at the White Mountain Hotel and will feature a silent and live auction. This fund has been established to help Hale’s Location Golf Pro, Wayne Sprouse who has been presented with some serious medical challenges.

Wayne Sprouse the Head Golf Professional and Pro Shop Manager for Hale’s Location Golf Course joined our team in the spring of 2013.   Wayne has lived in the Mt. Washington Valley since 1997 and resides in North Conway with his wife Karen and their two children Cody and Timothy. Wayne is former golf shop owner himself, previously owning Dave’s Golf Shop. In dealing with this diagnosis and the many tests, procedures and doctor visits that ensued, Wayne was then given news that no one could ever be prepared for. He was also diagnosed with Stage-3 Follicular Cancer. The rigorous journey of chemotherapy, medical therapy and physical therapy has begun for Wayne and his family.   The Team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute is guiding his care, and we are confident that he is in the best hands possible. Now he needs our help.

This tournament has been established to support the Wayne L. Sprouse Medical Expenses Fund that has been established at the Northway Bank in North Conway, NH. This fund will help to defray the growing costs of Wayne’s medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. It should be noted that The Hale’s Location Golf Course and The White Mountain Hotel & Resort are donating 100% of the tournament fees collected to this Fund.

Memorial Hospital’s 34th Annual Golf Tournament Approaches

Memorial Hospital

Spots still available in one of North Conway’s most popular and long-running events

Now just about a month away, the popular 34th annual Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament, is coming up on Thurs. July 17, 2014 at the Wentworth Golf Course in Jackson, NH.  While sponsorship and foursomes are going fast, there are still spots available for all who wish to be part of this Valley institution.

In addition to offering a day of fun and camaraderie for a good cause on one of the most charming and challenging courses in the area, the event features a signature dining experience, called “Grazing on the Green.”  Food for the event has been provided by Thompson House Eatery, Marty Sweeney Caterers and the Red Fox Pub.

“Every tournament in the Valley is known for something, and ours is known for its food,” said tournament director Paul Keane. “Last year, our guests were overwhelmed with both the quantity and quality of dining. This year’s participants can expect more of the same.”

Grazing on the Green features a gourmet buffet as well as wait-served appetizers, with an amazing array of seafood, beef, chicken, and other delicacies for all tastes.

The dining format is designed to promote a more social style for mixing and mingling.  A diverse array of delicious “small bites,” both sweet and savory, promise to please even the most discerning pallet.  The list below will be among this year’s offerings but don’t be surprised to see many tempting additions:

  • Crab, spinach stuffed mushroom caps
  • BBQ pulled pork on mini cornbread muffins
  • New England Clam Chowder with oyster crackers
  • Marty’s world famous deviled eggs (don’t miss these babies)
  • Smoked Salmon with fresh dill, capers, red onions, and whole grain mustard
  • Fresh Seasonal Fruits and Artisan Cheeses with assorted crackers
  • Country Style Pate’ served with flatbreads and assorted condiments
  • Pam’s “not to be missed” spinach pie, flaky and flavorful
  • Assorted Summer Bruschetta topped with fresh chopped tomatoes, basil, capers, and a sprinkled of Asiago cheese
  • Sliders
  • Braised Short Rib with a horseradish cream
  • Seafood with lemon, caper dill aioli
  • Meatloaf with homemade charred onion ketchup
  • Sausage with tomato basil aioli
  • Sesame crusted and pan seared Ahi Tuna on English cucumber, with wasabi, pickled Ginger, and a sweet chili drizzle.
  • Roasted Beef Tenderloin bites with fire roasted red peppers and a garlic & herb cream cheese
  • Fresh Asparagus wrapped in proscuitto
  • Desserts
    • Chocolate dipped Strawberries and marshmallows on Graham crackers
    • Mini Eclairs and other assorted French style pastries

But golfers shouldn’t let the food and the day’s excitement be the only reason to take part. Proceeds from this year’s golf tournament will support a school-year long initiative to bring health and wellness education and activities to students throughout Mt. Washington Valley. The initiative was launched last year and has been an extremely popular program for the student population throughout the region.

Thanks to the generosity of the tournament’s supporters, local elementary and middle school students throughout Mt. Washington Valley were treated to free running races, snowshoe tours along river banks and informational talks with sports medicine doctors, dietitians and diabetes educators. The tournament proceeds also funded the donation of health and wellness related books to a school’s library and a visit from one of Memorial’s health care providers to give a talk or an activity on a particular topic. Students also received items to encourage them to partake in a health activity, from jump ropes to pedometers to water bottles.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for local businesses and individuals. Many sponsorship packages also include golf teams for the event. For those wishing to play in the tournament, golfers may join the event as individuals or in teams of four. This year’s tournament Presenting Sponsor is once again The Tolley Group.

This year’s Golf Tournament Committee members include: co-chairs: Dan Jones and Bayard Kennett;  Kathy Bennett,  Mary Collins,  Mike Davenport,  Marilyn Desmarais, Sally Fiore,  Paul Keane, Lois Gardner, Don Newton, Will Owen, Gail Paine, Joan Phillips, Marta Ramsey,  Joanne Sutton, Linda Turcotte, and Mary Vigeant, APRN.

The Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament was founded in 1980 by former US Congressman Bill Zeliff and Jackson businessman Lee Harmon.  The long-running tournament takes place on the The Wentworth Golf Club, a beautiful 18 hole course in the heart of quaint Jackson Village. This picturesque course provides outstanding views of the majestic Presidential Range and the scenic splendor of the Wildcat and Ellis Rivers as they meander throughout the course. The tournament features a popular raffle with prizes donated from dozens of local and regional businesses, plus its famous Grazing on the Green food extravaganza.

For more information, or to sign up for golf or sponsorship, visit the golf event page on www.memorialhospitalnh.org/golf  or call Joan Phillips at 603-356-5461 ext. 2264 for more information.
