Mt. Washington Guided Alpine Garden Tour

Saturday, June 10th, 2017, 8:30 AM – 4 PM is your opportunity to take a tour of Mt. Washington’s beautiful and world famous Alpine Garden! See the rare plants of the Northeast’s highest peak, learn about the alpine zone’s ecology, and the history of the mountain during this full day tour with Redline Naturalist Guide Liz Wyman.

The tour begins with a drive up the historic Mt. Washington Auto Road in a comfortable 12-passenger van. Following the drive, participants will embark on a 2-mile hike loop above the treeline through the alpine garden to the Mt. Washington summit.

There will be stops along the way to learn about the natural and cultural history of Mt. Washington, to identify alpine plants, and to explore summit buildings. Hikers will explore the Tip Top House, the Mt. Washington Observatory, the Sherman Adams Visitor Center, and the Extreme Mt. Washington Museum on this excursion.

Hikers may purchase lunch in the summit cafeteria or pack their own picnic lunch for the day. After relaxing at the summit and learning about Mt. Washington’s history, participants will descent the auto road by the comfortable 12-passenger van.

While interested individuals are welcome to register, please keep in mind that this tour involves a moderately strenuous hike on steep, rocky terrain above treeline with unpredictable weather. Even though it is spring (and almost summer!) here in the Mt. Washington Valley, winter-like conditions and high winds are possible on Mt. Washington during every month of the year. The tour will happen rain or shine.

For these reasons, Redline Guiding asks that hikers come prepared. Please dress appropriately: warm, approved layers (no cotton), rain gear, well-treaded shoes or boots, hat, and gloves. Rental gear is available. It is also highly recommended that participants bring snacks and plenty of water for the hike.

Preregistration for this tour is required. The cost per person for this tour is $149, which includes round-trip transportation (a $62 value). To book this tour, visit http://redlineguiding.com/book-now/ and select “Nature Tour (Full Day)” from the menu on the booking page and choose June 10th for the tour date.
