King Pine Hosts PSIA & AASI Level 1 Exam January 28-29

East Madison, N.H. — Approximately 20 ski instructors will be at King Pine Ski Area this weekend seeking their Alpine Level 1 certification from the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). Examiners from the Eastern Division of PSIA will spend two days evaluating the candidates against national certification standards for ski teaching. According to the PSIA-AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) website, certification standards provide a consistent training framework for instructors and represent a standard of competency for ski teaching across the United States that is transferrable from division to division. No matter where you live, once an instructor is certified by PSIA or AASI, they’ll teach from the same platform and to the same standards as PSIA-AASI members from across the country.

“We are excited to be the host ski area for this PSIA Level 1 Exam event,” said Trisha Jacobson, King Pine Ski Area’s Director of Ski and Snowboard School. “Though many of our ski and snowboard instructors, coaches and trainers are already PSIA and AASI Level 1, 2 and 3 certified, this is the first time that King Pine has been the host ski area for a certification exam. I am proud of our 12 new instructor candidates who have been working hard with our training staff to prepare for this event. We also look forward to welcoming instructors from several other ski areas who will be joining us for this event. We wish all the candidates success this weekend and beyond as they join PSIA, expand their professional expertise and bring it all back to their ski areas and into their lessons!”

About The PSIA and AASI

With more than 10,600 members, the Eastern Division of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA-E) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) is the largest of the nine divisions that make up PSIA and AASI. The Eastern Division members represent nearly 35% of more than 31,400 national members. Members live and work in seven regions up and down the East Coast, teaching for more than 250 snowsports schools.

Happy Fall from Purity Spring Resort!

October 2014

Happy Fall!

It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the summer months and all they had to offer!  As the leaves turn their annual red, orange and yellow we can’t help but be excited for the fall!  The autumn is the perfect time to continue to enjoy the outdoors and all that Purity Spring Resort has to offer.

As many of you know, fall at Purity Spring is still beautiful. It’s  the ideal time to grab the family and set out on a hike or enjoy a adventurous mountain biking excursion. Can’t stay away from the water?  Don’t worry, our kayaks and canoes are still complimentary with your stay and the indoor pool and hot tub at The Mill Pool and Fitness Center are always available on those cooler days. Or relax at the Spring House with an aromatherapy massage.

This month marks our 5th Annual Halloween Town which will take place on October 25th, rain or shine!  Be prepared for lots of laughs and plenty of scares as we host this free event on the grounds of our beloved Tohkomeupog summer camp for boys. We are happy to share that all proceeds from this special event go to The Laura Foundation for Autism and Epilepsy, a non profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals living with autism and epilepsy.

Cooler nights mean snowmaking can begin soon!  Mark your calendars for King Pine Ski Area’s opening day, December 12th!  On the first day of the season our trails will be open from Noon – 7:00pm.  Join us in the spirit of giving and donate a non-perishable food item.  Each skier can donate up to 5 items maximum and you will receive $1 per item off your ski ticket! What a great way to start the ski season!

Other dates to mark your calendars with this winter are:

  • December 20th – Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

  • December 21th – World Snowboard Day – Rail Jam!

Letter from the Hoyt Family

Happy Spring! After saying goodbye to a wonderful, long winter season we’re looking forward to welcoming the beauty and warm weather spring and summer bring! Warmer temps have moved into the valley and signs of spring are everywhere. Flowers are blooming, wildlife is stirring and the water temps are warming daily.

This year Amanda Hoyt Morrill and Amy M0rong Lundquist both brought beautiful additions to the Hoyt family with new babies Charlotte & Hayden. Charlotte was born in September, she is the second child of Amy & Andrew Lundquist, Charlotte joins Annie age three and is the second grandchild of Duffy Mrong. Hayden Jon was born in January. Hayden is the first child for Amanda & Jon Morrill, and is the first grandchild of Bob & Yvonne Hoyt.

This spring we have been busy renovating and making improvements to the resort in time for the upcoming summer season. In addition to new paint in many of the common areas of the resort, Hillside and Fireside Cottages (located to the right of the Inn) have been completely renovated – new walls, ceilings, floors, new windows, etc. They have each been renovated from two single standard rooms with an adjoining door, into a two bedroom suite in each building. The units are almost completed and will be ready late this spring for guests.

Best Wishes!

The Hoyt Family

{Looking back as we look forward}
What a winter for King Pine Ski Area! The season, filled with activities, events and record-breaking snowfall, was a huge success! We are delighted to announce that Cynthia’s Challenge, the 24 hour Ski-A-Thon, sponsored by King Pine, on March 21st & 22nd raised $34,015!! Proceeds from this event went to benefit 12 year old Cynthia Verrill who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and is in need of service dog to detect on-coming seizures. Cynthia is the daughter of Stacie and Kevin Verrill of Effingham, employees at King Pine Ski Area and Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort. Because of all of the volunteers, sponsors, employees and participants from near and far, Cynthia’s hope of a service dog has become a reality. 145 skiers and snowboarders from all over New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts participated in this incredible event. We were honored to be a part of this amazing event and look forward to next year’s Ski-A-Thon to help benefit another local child in need.
