2017 Cynthia’s Challenge 24-Hour Ski-a-Thon at King Pine

King Pine Ski Area at Purity Spring Resort is excited to announce the next beneficiary of Cynthia’s Challenge 24-Hour Ski-A-Thon to be held in East Madison, New Hampshire March 17-18, 2017. All funds raised with this year’s event will benefit Sanbornville, New Hampshire’s Faith Holt, an 11-year-old girl living with skeletal dysplasia, seizure disorder and Crane-Heise Syndrome. This year’s goal is to purchase Faith’s family a wheelchair accessible van.

Faith was born pre-maturely and spent her first one hundred days in a neonatal intensive care unit. The combination of skeletal dysplasia, seizure disorder and Crane-Heise Syndrome require Faith to wear a soft-shelled helmet because she does not have a cranial cap. Due to multiple surgeries and her daily seizures, she uses a wheelchair for her mobility. Faith is the daughter of Doug Holt, an Air Force Veteran who served in Desert Storm, and sister to older brothers, Sean (19), Devin (16) and Cody (12). Faith’s mother, Stephanie Holt, passed away when she was six-years-old. A wheelchair accessible van would be of incredible assistance to the Holt family to get Faith and his other children to their daily activities and appointments.

cynthias-challengeKing Pine asks participants to donate $99 per person for 24 hours of skiing, snowboarding, and fun. This ticket price includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, a T-shirt, games, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the night.  Kids ages 8 and under ski for free.

Raffle tickets will also be available to purchase for a chance to win a variety of fabulous prizes, including a Private Duck Tour of Boston donated by Boston Duck Tours, a Valley Train Guest Card for 2 adults and 2 children at the Conway Scenic Railroad, and the grand prize: 3 nights’ lodging in a one bedroom condominium in the Aspens at Jackson Hole Resort Lodging and 2 day lift tickets with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

About Cynthia’s Challenge 24-Hour Ski-A-Thon

Now in its fourth year, Cynthia’s Challenge 24-Hour Ski-A-Thon has raised over $131,000 to benefit children and their families. Starting in 2014, Cynthia Verrill was the first benefactor and resulted in her name being used to name the event. $35,000 raised for Cynthia was used to provide a seizure detecting service dog. The second year, the event raised over $35,000 for Samantha Gillard who was in need of a wheel chair accessible van and the third year raised $61,000 for Kevin Dall to purchase a wheel chair accessible van.

cynthias-challenge2Cynthia’s Challenge was created in an effort to ease the financial burden upon children and their families associated with specialty medical needs. King Pine Ski Area supports Cynthia’s Challenge with the support of local business and the surrounding community.

28th Annual Chocolate Festival

On Sunday, February 26th join us for the sweetest day on the trails at the 28th Annual Chocolate Festival! Spend a day of outdoor winter fun and indulge in sweet treats to benefit the Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring Foundation, a non-profit organization. The foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to providing Conway residents, taxpayers, and school age children with access to winter recreation opportunities including snowshoeing and Nordic skiing at no cost.

Whether traveling through the trail stops by cross country ski, snowshoe, or by car, participants will enjoy the spectacular scenery, warm hospitality, and great chocolate treats of the Mount Washington Valley. For those that choose to cross country ski or snowshoe, unleash your inner winter adventurer by embarking on our groomed 45-km trail network!

Storybook Character Breakfasts to Benefit Believe in Books Literacy Foundation

Visit the Theater in the Wood throughout the months of February, March, and April to meet some of your favorite Storybook Characters for a cause! Starting at 10 am, enjoy a tasty pancake breakfast with the Believe in Books Foundation’s very own 100 Acre Wood Maple Syrup. Enjoy a storybook reading surrounded with new friends,  and meet with the characters afterwards.

The morning will include a book swap (bring a gently used book and swap it with another), a pancake breakfast including our own 100 Acre Wood Maple Syrup, a storybook reading and visit involving the character of the day, as well as access to the 100 Acre Wood Trail System!  After your meal, visit our Maple Sugar Shack afterward to see how we make it!

Northeast Credit Union Celebrates 80th Anniversary By Contributing to Their Community

Portsmouth, N.H. – Northeast Credit Union celebrated their 80th anniversary by spreading their generosity and community support to three local non-profits. The credit union asked community members to help them choose local non-profits to receive donations. After receiving over 2,000 votes for 15 different non-profit organizations, NECU would like to congratulate Zebra Crossings of Dover, N.H., an organization that enriches the lives of children with a chronic health conditions through fun and engaging medically-supervised programs. Not far behind was Connor’s Climb of Exeter, N.H., receiving a surprise donation of $1,000, followed by UpReach Therapeutic Riding Center of Goffstown, N.H., receiving $500 from the credit union.

Grateful for such a generous donation, Astrid Wielens, Executive Director of Zebra Crossings expressed, “Zebra Crossings provides empowerment programs for youth with chronic medical conditions. We aim to lessen the burden of chronic medical conditions by connecting kids through play and providing respite for caregivers. It is only through community support like this that we can make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.”

On behalf of Connor’s Climb of Exeter, N.H., another grateful non-profit for Northeast Credit Union’s generosity,  State Representative Susan Stover described the importance of such a donation, as the foundation thrives from donations, helping them fund Signs of Suicide (SOS) training for NH educators and schools to prevent youth suicide.

Development Director Veronica Lester from the third appreciative non-profit, UpReach Therapeutic Riding Center, expressed gratitude towards the community and Northeast Credit Union, saying, “The funds couldn’t have come at a better time and will be used as unrestricted funding, which is invaluable to the success of UpReach and allows us the flexibility to use the money toward our most current needs. We thank NECU for their support in allowing UpReach to provide safe, affordable and high quality equine assisted activities and therapies to individuals in the greater Manchester community.”

Enjoy the Foliage with Bike for Books this October!

 

The North Conway Public Library will hold its 11th annual Bike for Books fund raiser on Saturday, October 6th, 2012.

This scenic mountain bike tour of the Mount Washington Valley during peak fall foliage season offers different route options to accommodate various ability levels from novice to expert mountain biker and for children. The big tour will begin between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. (your choice!) and is expected to conclude by early afternoon; shorter routes can be done in an hour or two. Every participant can choose their own route and own pace since this is a tour and not a race. The mountain bike trails will be well-marked, nobody will get lost. Food and drinks along the way and afterwards will be provided to all participants.

All bikers and volunteers will receive a book, a BPA-free bike bottle, and are invited to a free big lunch at the finish where Elvio’s pizza, hot soup, desserts, and fresh coffee from Frontside Grind will be served. Many local businesses have donated numerous free giveaways and gift certificates to be given away on a random draw basis.

Participants should be on a mountain bike with knobby, fat tires and children should have some off-road cycling experience. You can come and bike for an hour or all day; easy or difficult routes- it’s your choice!

A benefit for the Library’s children’s room, the registration fee is $20 for individuals, $35 for couples, $40 for families, and $10 for students 16 and under. Registration forms may be picked up at the North Conway Public Library or downloaded at http://www.NorthConwayLibrary.com .

Registration on the day of the event will be held at the Whitaker Woods Rec Building (“Whitaker Woods Homesite”) off Route 16 across from White Mountain Oil) in North Conway from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
