BRETTON WOODS, NH (September 10, 2013) – Bretton Woods, the ski area at Omni Mount Washington Resort, is gearing up for the 2013/2014 ski season as it prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Home to New Hampshire’s largest ski area, Bretton Woods will kick off the season with phase three of a $2.25 million enhancement.
This season, Bretton Woods will have the ability to open more terrain earlier in the season thanks to the addition of 40 snow guns on Crawford’s Blaze and 20 upgraded snow guns to the Ben trails(Ben, Big Ben, and Bigger Ben). The addition of the 60 new guns, along with other system upgrades, will increase snowmaking abilities by 54 percent.
Following in the footsteps of last year’s Mount Stickney expansion, which brought a new 2,000-foot Doppelmayr T-Bar lift and the rustic Mount Stickney Cabin, Bretton Woods continues to grow with the Nordic Skier in mind. Adding to its already vast 100km trail network, Bretton Woods willadd 3km of Nordic trails with the opening of its new Nordic high-country terrain on Mount Stickney.
One of only a few ski resorts to offer lift-served Nordic terrain, Bretton Woods’ new trail systemwill benefit from colder temperatures and increased accumulation providing the avid Nordic skier with early and late season terrain. Extending out from the new Mount Stickney Cabin, the trails are easily accessed via a T-Bar lift or by skiing up Mountain Road. The new trails will circle along the ridge of Mount Stickney near the summit where they connect to the Stickney trail system. The new trails will also allow Nordic skiers to take advantage of Alpine amenities, including the Mount Stickney Cabin, where guests can warm up while taking in the stunning vistas of the ski area and surrounding mountains.
The upgrades continue at the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, which updated four zip lines adding 1,000 more feet of high-flying fun. These four new zips — ranging from 500 to 800 feet — replaced four smaller ones, which means less time on the ground and more time in the trees, keeping the adrenaline pumping throughout the 4,700-foot tour. As one of New England’s premier canopy tour experiences, the unique year-round excursion is comprised of nine zip lines, two suspension bridges, hiking and even rappelling deep into the forests of Bretton Woods. Distinctive from typical zip line experiences, the three-hour canopy tour incorporates its natural surroundings with experienced guides leading participants above the forest as they glide past the tops of ancient hemlocks, spruces and white pine, all while learning about the native birds and various plant species, local geology and cultural history of region.
Resort accommodations will also get a refresh with a renovation of The Lodge, a 50 room facility featuring excellent views of the Presidential Range and Mount Washington Hotel from private decks or patios. The fresh new look will feature updated furnishings, carpeting and bathroom amenities, while the indoor pool area will receive a fresh look. A new fitness center and “grab and go” marketplace will be introduced, as well as the return of a daily continental breakfast service.
To celebrate Bretton Woods’ 40th season, guests will enjoy Opening Day rates of just $19.73 in honor of Bretton Woods’ founding year, 1973. All season long during non-holiday periods, guests can upgrade daily Sunday-Thursday tickets by 4pm to include the next day for just $40. Guests can also enter to win the ultimate ski vacation. Now through March 1, 2014, guests who sign up for the resort’s eClub newsletter will be automatically entered for the chance to win a stay at The Lodgewith 39 of their closest friends over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend.
Guests looking to experience all that’s new this season can also book the Stay Here, Ski Free Package, which includes free lifts tickets with the purchase of accommodations at The Lodge, Omni Mount Washington Hotel or Omni Bretton Arms Inn. Lodge rates from $99 per night.
