Theorem Painting is an early American decorative technique that was popular during the early 1800s. Its primary attraction, then as today, is the fact that it enables the average non-professional artist to create artworks for their own use, using a sequence of two or more stencils or overlays.

Jean Hansen will provide the material and her expertise to teach you how to use this historic technique, and Remick Museum’s Farmhouse Kitchen will provide refreshments.

The cost is $40 (includes cards, stencil and refreshments).

Register by calling the Remick Museum at 323-7591.

For more information about theorem painting and examples,
visit Jean’s website at www.jeanhansen.com

Fun February Vacation Weeks

The Remick Museum will be holding vacation camp during both February vacation weeks, Feb 18 to 22 and Feb 25 to March 1. There will be 2 activities each day with a Remick lunch included. Activities will be from 10:30-2:30 Monday through Friday.

The cost each day will be $12: Parents must pre-register and pre-pay for children by Wednesday of the previous week. If signed up for all 5 days the cost will be $50.00 per child.

Camper parents may leave for the 4 hours with signed permission slips, completed health forms and contact information. These forms may be found on our website or picked up at the Museum’s front desk. Programs are for ages 6 and up.

Monday In the morning, learn all about wool and weaving on your very own loom. After lunch, have fun creating a wooden toy to take home and play with.

Tuesday Discover what children played with in the past and try your hand at historic games. After lunch, it’s dress-up time with old-time clothing. Make a paper doll of your choice to take and dress up.

Wednesday Learn how to track animals and their habits then make an inked print. After lunch, we turn on the historic lights and hand-dip candles.

Thursday Back to school to learn penmanship in your own personal copy book. After lunch, have fun making corn husk dolls. Will yours be a pirate, princess or kitchen maid? Let your imagination fly!

Friday Become a tinsmith, we’ll teach you how! After lunch it’s lucets and beads. Don’t know what a lucet is? Come in and find out!

Fields of Attitash Horseback Riding Opens for Summer Saturday, June 16

Guided horseback trail riding at the Fields of Attitash in Bartlett, New Hampshire

Bartlett, NH – In addition to the Nor’Easter Mountain Coaster, Alpine Slide, waterslides, and other available summer attractions at Attitash Mountain Resort, horseback riding has long been a traditional summertime activity that locals and visitors alike can enjoy in the Mount Washington Valley. This Saturday, June 16, the guided horseback trail and pony rides will be open at 9 a.m. to begin its daily summer operating season. The Fields of Attitash have once again become the home for 20 horses of various sizes and breed, but this year many improvements have been made that enhance the equine business surroundings and are functional to utilize and sustain the field space for feeding horses. “It really looks great down here and we’re excited to open for the summer,” said horse and trail guide manager Megan Brown. “From the new entrance gate and directional signage to the few hundred new posts and fencing installed to allow our horses to naturally feed across more field space, visitors are going to notice the many improvements made. All of these improvements, in addition to a lot of trail maintenance work and cleaning up the forest and riverside trails that suffered damage from last summer’s tropical storm Irene, will really compliment the experience for our customers.”

Also new this year, guests will have a lower-priced ($30 per person), half-hour guided tour option in addition to the longer, one-hour ride ($50 per person). No experience is necessary to enjoy guided horseback riding, but riders must be 8 years or older; over 48 inches in height; and not weigh more than 250 pounds. For younger children who may not meet the minimum age and height requirement to ride horses, the stables also offer hand-led pony rides. For all riders, the proper clothing and footwear, including long pants and shoes, are highly recommended. Horseback and pony rides are scheduled to operate daily, weather permitting, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. through Monday, September 3 and rides are accommodated on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are not accepted, however, riders (including groups) are encouraged to call ahead to know availability. Entrance to the Fields of Attitash is located a quarter-mile east of Attitash Mountain Resort on Route 302. For additional information the stables can be reached at (603) 374-0961.

Attitash Mountain Resort is the original summer fun ski area in the Mount Washington Valley offering the original Alpine Slide, year-round Nor’Easter mountain coaster, waterslides, lift-service downhill and cross-country mountain biking, scenic summit chair ride, and more. Attitash Mountain Resort is also home to the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel & Conference Center providing the areas only full-service, slopeside accommodations. Marvel Comics Illustrator Coming to Met Gallery June 17, 1-4pm

Comic illustrator J. K. Woodward will be at The Met Gallery, in North Conway, New Hampshire on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17 from 1 pm until 4 pm autographing prints of his work and donating proceeds from the sale of any prints to Starting Point.   J. K. lives in New York and is an accomplished artist and illustrator working for some of the biggest names in the comic world including Marvel, Dark Horse, Boom! Archaia and IDW Publishing.  He has worked with Peter David for the re-launch of his creator-owned series Fallen Angel.   Comic aficionados won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet one of the industry’s rising stars.

J.K. Woodward is the son of Donna Woodward of Fryeburg, Maine.  He started his professional comic career in 2003 when he collaborated with A. David Lewis on the indie comic Mortal Coils and Michael Colbert on the Digital Webbing Presents series Crazy Mary where he still does covers. IDW noticed his work on Crazy Mary and offered him a gig doing a CSI: NY limited series and he followed in short order with a standout story in BOOM! Studios’ Zombie Tales series. When Peter David was re-launching the creator owned series Fallen Angel at IDW, James was a natural choice for Peter’s dark world of magic, violence and redemption. His painted work eventually caught the attention of Marvel editor, Mike Marts, (now an editor at DC Comics) who chose him to illustrate X-men Origins: The Beast which was released September 2008. He recently relocated from Long Beach, CA to Long Island City in Queens, NY and still illustrates Peter David’s Fallen Angel as a reoccurring miniseries for IDW as well as various other works for IDW and BOOM! Studios.  His most recent releases include Archaia’s OGN, “Everlast” written and created by Chad Michael Murray and “Doctor Who/Star Trek: Assimilation Squared” from IDW.   You can see more of J.K.’s work, including the Star Trek/Dr. Who poster being donated for the event at his blog at http://jkwoodwardart.blogspot.com/2012/
